Barra Head Lighthouse is situated on the southernmost island in the Outer Hebrides, the Island of Berneray, at the southern entrance to the Minch. The light is at a position of 56 47.1 North, 07 39.2 West.

The primary means of access to Barra Head Lighthouse is by helicopter, which is a 45 minute flight from NLB Oban, or 20 minutes flying from Benbecula Airport. There is a boat landing on the island although it is in poor condition and its location makes it extremely exposed to the Atlantic swell and strong tidal stream. It cannot therefore be relied upon for safe access and NLB helicopter will be used as the sole form of access throughout the project. The light is accessed by helicopter, with a designated landing area to the centre of the island.

Tenderers to provide the name, contact mobile number and Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) and Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System Training (CA-EBS) certificates of the representative attending.
